I know, I know....haven't posted much. With good reason.....I've been pretty sick for the last week or so. Still not doing very well, but much better than a few days ago.
So, I will share the rest of my Flying Unicorn CT projects for November with you. There's not too many left.
The Mixed Art Kit
I really wanted to post this for Thanksgiving, but ...... Anyways, I love this canvas, and will probably display it year round in my scrappy space. The mini canvases were included in the kit, and I used two here, and the other for the next project.
Another project that will stay out year round.
The Main Kit
Love this pic of my SIL!! Who knew BoBunny girly girl papers would be perfect for this layout!!! Love how it turned out!!
I really wanted to use this pic of DD Ashley, but had already glued it to a Prima frame (not in the kit)....decided to use it on this layout anyways!
Venice Canal....a trip my DD and SIL made this past summer. Love architecture, and she took a bunch of pics of all she could. Don't know if she did it for me or not, but I'm going with it. LOL
The Small Art Big Passion Kit
Just a few cards.....
Gorgeous images from the BoBunny papers!
Love those birds!!
A cute girly girl card!
I also made a couple of gift bags with this kit....
Love the frame paper!!!!!!
Again, the birds....so adorable!!! And after making all of these projects with the SABP Kit, I still have a ton of product left!!!
Flying Unicorn Gives Back
I have a Holiday Project for FUL Gives Back.......
Made with bits and pieces of stuff you might not think about using.....a candleholder for the body, a paper mache egg for his head, a bottle cap for the hat, a skewer for his nose, dominoes for the wall, and a Prima Wood Veneer Box for the base!
So that's it for this month, tomorrow brings new projects for December!!! I have had quite a bit of time to think about my blog posting, and have decided to make myself a schedule. The plan, is to post every Monday and Friday, with possibly additional posts throughout the month. I figure if I get on a schedule, it will be easier to stay on top of it.
Can you believe it......3 posts in 2 days! Ha! Feast or famine I guess!
I finally got my paper & alpha storage video edited, and thought I would share it with you. Not going to go into much detail, as it's all in the video.
I purchased 2 of MALM units, when they were on the Friends & Family special.....it works for me, as they both fit under an older desk I have. But I have to admit, that the GALANT file cabinet was very tempting! The drawers are a bit deeper, and of course there are 3 drawers, and that would have accomodated all of my 12 X 12 Paper Pads as well.
Oh and the Medium Weight 12 X 12 Chipboard I was talking about, has dropped in price from $8.99 to $6.99. It's comparable to Amazon's prices. Here's the link to Walmart's chipboard: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Medium-Weight-Chipboard-Sheets-12X12-Natural-25-Pkg/10881055
Second post of the day! So if you are here to see the Scrap Around The World Post.....please scroll down.
Sharing the first of my November CT projects for Flying Unicorn. The Off The Page (OTP) project. I love, really love that Alda includes an OTP in the monthly Main Kit!!! It's unique.....ok, I don't know of any other Kit Clubs (and I am using that term loosely), that does that. But I digress.
I absolutely love this OTP, I loved it when I first took it out of the box, I loved it before I started embellishing it, and I love it even more now. No way, is this one being given away! It's one of my all-time fave projects. So, here it is.....
I just love the shape, and the chicken wire!! And I wanted something rustic, but elegant at the same time. So first things first.....I painted the frame with Unbleached Titanium paint. And added some distress ink in Vintage Photo here and there. I did sand back some of the edges, very lightly, as I wanted the black edges underneath to show through. Note it was white, with black edges. Next, I stencilled over top with Tim Holtz's Doily Stencil and Golden Molding Paste.
I had even thought to include this quote by Albert Camus:
"Autumn is a second spring where every leaf is a flower"
I think it's fitting, but I just couldn't make it work.
The leaves.....I was originally planning on using just the vintage book paper leaves that I hand cut, but found they were a bit too big, to do what I wanted. I decided to try die cutting the Prima leaves, to see if the size was better. Of course I picked up the paper I'd been testing media on for another project. I figured it was going in the trash anyways. So long story short....the size was perfect and the kraft cardstock was the perfect color......so I tested some sprays on top......and you know what? I fell in love with this 'trash' piece, and decided to use it. If you look closely at the leaves, youcan see bits and pieces of different blue and teal paints and mediums I'd been testing. The only addition here, was the 13 Arts Gold Microspheres, glued on with Claudine Hellmuth Multi Medium.
Of course I tried pre-made flowers, I even had a couple glued down before deciding they just weren't what I wanted. So I searched for flower tutorials on YouTube, and came across this gem, by Tiffany Windsor at Cool2Craft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=De4igBXpsHg
I didn't have the burlap fabric she had, so I came up with a variation using burlap ribbon. Here's a closeup of the flower.
In retrospect, I would have preferred the flowers without the Petaloo Centers. Not because they aren't beautiful centers, but because I've come to appreciate just how lovely these flowers are without anything added to them. Alas, they are firmly glued in place, so I can't take them out. LOL
I do have a video tutorial for you, and I even included a bonus tutorial for making burlap ribbon leaves. Enjoy!!
So give these a try!! I think I might make a bunch, and put them in my Christmas Tree this year!!
I am late with this post. It should have gone up yesterday.....yikes!
Okay, moving on.......Flying Unicorn is the main sponsor over at Scrap Around The World, this month. So the FUL CTs are special guests this month.
Here is the gorgeous mood board, we got to play with.......
Love!!!!! The colors, the wood, the music paper....so yummy!!!
Here's my take on the board......
Sorry about the quality of the pic....it was a rainy day, and had to be done that day! And I have no closeups.....again, the pics were horrible, so I opted to opt out of them! LOL
I used Authentique 'Gifted' paper and vintage sheet music, and then slathered on the stenciling, with Prima Chalk Inks, 13 Arts Paints, Shimmerz mixed with Gel Medium, and so on. The gorgeous chippy is Leaky Shed Studio Clock 2. And the flowers are Prima and Petaloo.
That's it for today! Need to finish editing my burlap flower video, and upload!!
Head on over to Scrap Around The World and check out all of the gorgeous creations the CTs have made!!
It's a new month, so that means a new challenge is up at 1~2~3 Get Scrappy!! Wait til you see the Board!!
I had a hard time picking a row, this month. Not because they were difficult, it's just that I couldn't decide which one I wanted to go with! LOL I finally settled on the last vertical row: Holiday Theme, Masculine and Kraft Colored Background.
I am still debating on whether this is masculine enough, as I did add more flowers and lace, than originally intended. Actually, I wasn't planning on adding any flowers or lace....but things changed direction somewhere!
While searching through my stencils trying to find one with snowflakes, I realized that I don't have one! So I decided to make my own. It would have been easier to use my Cameo, but I was in a hurry. So I took out some plastic packaging, and diecut it with Spellbinders Create-A-Flake Three. The homemade stencil was used with gesso to create the plain snowflakes. The upside to going this way, was that I now also had the positive plastic snowflakes, which I colored with Ranger Alcohol Ink in blue tones. The next step was to add more snowflakes with an older BoBunny snowflake stamp and Tsukineko Brilliance in Moonlight White.
Sorry the pics are blurry....between the plastic packaging snowflakes and the bling, I kept getting unwanted reflections. Unfortunately these are as good as it gets. I wanted to add something to the centers of those stencilled snowflakes, and probably tried every jewel, pearl, brad, etc, from my stash, before deciding on the We R Memory Keepers Large Eyelets in white. I backed them with scraps of paper, so you wouldn't see through the holes. The large blue and white leaf is a piece of scrap paper, diecut with a Prima Leaf Die.
The trees....probably my favorite part of this layout! Simple, staggered, distressed on the edges and all made from scraps! I highlighted only one, using Tim Holtz belt buckles ......I think that's what they're called.
Going through my stash looking for any flower that would fit, was the next step. And I did find a few......a Jolee's Boutique Flower (large ivory), older Heidi Swapp felt flowers (brown), Maya Road embroidered flowers, which I took apart, and Recollections (small blue and grungy ivory). And then I found a crochet flower that fit perfectly.
A few more embellies were added, including a Maya Road bingo piece as my title, more Tim Holtz Ideaology pieces, Prima Junkyard Findings and Recollections bling. A bit of stamping in the corners with Prima Stitches Stamp and StazOn Ink in Timber Brown as well as Ranger Archival in Coffee. The edges were finished with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Walnut Stain.
I hope you enjoyed my layout....let me know if you think it's too girly! Now head on over to the 1~2~3 Get Scrappy Blog, and check out all of the DT projects. And do play with us, with this awesome challenge!
So I just scheduled a post for next week, and while doing the normal playing around on the blog, I realized that I posted one, yes only one project made for Flying Unicorn, last month! Ugh!!!!
So, without going into details about each project, I am posting all of my October CT projects in this post.
The layouts.....
Looking at this one now, I think I would take out the white paper under my title.
Probably my fave this month!
Love this paper!
Loved working on the burlap paper.....I did add it to a canvas background.
The cards and tag
Love the background!
Keeping it simple! The face is handmade with paperclay in a Sculpey face mold.
Shay is stamped on Tim Holtz Glassine paper, and then over stamped with a Kaisercraft stamp.
