Today, I want to talk to you about my quest for organization in my scrappy space......yes, a bit different than normal. I have been in my scrap space, for about 3 1/2 years now, and over that period of time, I've re-arranged the room, many times, trying to make it work for me. During the last couple of months, I did it again....twice!! Yes, moved everything around, twice! While I was doing that, I purged and cleaned and got rid of a lot of stuff I didn't need, or wasn't going to use. Unfortunately, that meant getting rid of my cutesy containers, and little boxes, and storage that just didn't work for me. I had to, in order to 'take back my scrap space' and to be more productive. You're not productive, if you have to search for the things you need. Nor are you productive, if it's so much of a hassle to get to stuff, that you can't even be bothered to try.
I should tell you a bit about my space, so that you'll understand part of my issues. My room is long and narrow, approximately 17 feet long by 8 1/2 feet wide. It has doors on 2 walls, windows, which I love, all across the other two walls and the A/C unit under one of the windows. So I don't have a lot of wall space for shelving. The two 'walls' have my jetmax cubes, and shelving. The rest of the room includes, my computer desk, printer/cameo table, a few Alex units (Ikea), scrap/craft desk and a large table, which I placed perpendicular to the desk (to make an L shape), to work on. Yes, I know, it sounds like I have a lot of 'counter space' to put stuff on. But not really! Now, I could have put my cutesy containers and boxes on the table, but I've decided that I don't like the clutter, and quite frankly, I need the space to work on! I tend to take over everything when I'm creating!! So the cutesy containers and boxes had to go....okay, maybe not all of them!! I also wanted the extra table space, for another person to work at.
I also needed to find the 'perfect storage' for me. It took me a long time (10+ years) to figure out that I like to flip through stuff, so that means, that my stuff has to stand up, and face me, in order to be able to find what I need quickly. So, I'm concentrating on storage that allows me to do that. I also didn't want to deal with packaging, that's one more step that I was trying to avoid. I wanted everything handy, and as easy to access as possible, so that meant moving some things closer to my desk, and some much further away....ok, the room isn't that big, but you get where I'm going.
The main thing that I wanted to do in my space, was to have all of my punches, dies and embossing folders, along with my Big Shot, in one area. I didn't want to have to go to the other end of the room for a die, or an embossing folder, etc. Basically, I wanted a die cutting station.
If you look in the bottom left corner of the pic, you can just see the A/C unit. That portion of the wall is just deep enough to house my two Benno towers from Ikea. That's a whopping 6.75 inches deep, people!!! Anything deeper, and I'd be boiling in the summer time!!
Martha Stewart Punch Around The Page and Deep Edge punches, that are a set, are marked with an 'M' so I remember that they have a mate.
The unit on the dresser holds all of my thin rule dies, and embossing folders, along with the punches. Oh, and all of my Tim Holtz Movers & Shapers too!! You'll see in the video.
I don't have all of my punches stored here. I keep all of my basic shape punches (circles, squares, etc) in a drawer of an Alex unit, which is under my table. Why? Because I use them a lot more, and that means that they need to be closer to my work desk.
In my video today, I show you my die cutting station, and how I've organized it to fit my needs.
This room is definitely a work in progress, however, I'm pretty sure that the furniture will be staying put! I may change some of the older pieces, but the floor plan, is really working for me. What I will change, is how I store and organize my scrappy products. There's still work to be done, and new containers to be purchased, or made. I'm taking my time with it, because I want to be sure that my dollars will be spent wisely. Patting myself on the back, here.....because my instincts are to just go buy what I think I need, instead of planning things out, and getting what is useful.
I hope that I've inspired you to get organized 'your way'!! Stay tuned for more videos on my Organization Series. Next up....how I found a way to store my cling mount and clear stamps without all of the packaging!
I want to send a big Thank You to Cynthialoowho and Jennifer McGuire, for their inspiration, in making this part of my project happen!!!
If you have any questions or would like to see something specific, let me know, and I will add that as a chapter in this series.
Its day 2 of 2 and the creative inspiration continues!! If you did not have a chance to peek at the awesomeness of yesterday - you can get a double dose today !
Let's not delay - let the inspiration begin !

Welcome to another challenge for Twisted Tuesday. Your challenge is 'I need your paperwork', which means, you need to use more than 3 patterned papers. The twist is, 'you can't do your paperwork without a pen', so, show us writing or doodling on your creation.
Here's my take on the challenge
My base papers, are from Authentique's Classique Elegant Collection, and are Elegant Two and Elegant Four. That is all the new papers I've used! Every other paper is a scrap....I'm working on using them up! I chose to do some doodling on my layout, because, well, I don't like my handwriting. But I can't draw very well either, so I started with a stencil from Plaid (oldie) just to get the basic shape of the flowers down. Then I went to town with my black Sharpie in Ultra Fine Point.
Around the flowers, I added some flourishes, and then dots with a turquoise Sharpie. I also added a bit of Stickles in Waterfall. I even used some flowers that I had intended for another project (green)....they seemed to fit here.
You can see that my doodling isn't perfect, and I'm okay with that. I don't think I would have said that 6 months ago, but I can now. I've decided that I need to let go of the 'perfectionist' in me, and just have fun. And when I do, I usually end up liking my creations more, and I'm less apt to judge my work.
The beautiful blooms are from Petaloo (small turquoise), Ashland (Michaels non-scrappy), Recollections (darker blues), and the green ones from a previous project, which I can't remember the manufacturer. The chippy was a gift from a friend, and I'm not sure who makes it. But I did emboss it with Stampendous Shabby Blue Enamel.....love the distressed look!
The title is another discarded piece from an older project, and I want to say is from....okay, I'm not sure at all. So let's call it a scrap!
Hope you enjoyed my project today, now head on over to the Twisted Tuesday blog, and check out all of the DT creations!! Make sure you grab a pen, and start creating your own masterpiece!!!!
It's time for our monthly challenge over at 1~2~3 Get Scrappy. You're going to love the challenge board.....
This was a toughie for me, but I managed! I really wanted to use roses, was trying to avoid lots of journaling, and just couldn't figure out which line to go with! In the end, I chose roses, yellow background and chalks. Here's my take on the board......
So I figured that 'wild roses' counted. The background is, well, mostly yellow...well, ehr, around the edges! And for the chalks....I really pushed the limits on this one.....I used chalk inks through my stencil.
The papers are from 7 Dots Studios' Dreamer Collection. The stencils are from Crafter's Workshop. The purple in the background is Modellier Creme from Viva Decor in Mother of Pearl Hydrangea.
You can tell I couldn't decide which way to go, from the squares cut from the patterned papers. In case you're wondering, I plan my layers before I stencil, that way I know where I need to stencil.
My title is a cut from a larger piece of wood veneer, I think it was UmWow....not sure. I covered it with Silks Acrylic Glaze in Teal Zircon. The chippy photo negatives are sprayed with Dylusions in Black Marble, and were leftovers from another project. I'm not sure of the manufacturer.
I added some Seedless Preserves Distress Ink from Tim Holtz, on the edges of some of the flowers.
The flowers are from Prima and Petaloo.
I hope you enjoyed my layout today. I'd love to see your take on this challenge!! Head on over to the 1~2~3 Get Scrappy blog, to check out all of the DT projects and come play along with us!!
This month, the Flying Unicorn DT's are special guests over at Once Upon A Sketch!! So exciting! I always feel challenged by the sketches that Nadia (owner and also a FUL DT) puts out. You see, I do very little journaling on my layouts, so this is definitely a big stretch for me.....and a lot of fun, too!!!
The challenge this month, is "An Event That Changed Your Life". My family means the world to me. And when my DD announced that she was expecting, five and a half years ago, well it was a surprise for all of us. But, I knew in my heart that the new grand-baby would hold an extra special place in my heart. He sure did. He changed my life in such a beautiful way!!
I didn't use baby pictures for my layout, as I wanted to reflect who he is today, and why he is so very lovable! Yes, he is such a boy!!! Love this little guy!!!
I used Flying Unicorn's April Kit of the Month Your Art Your Passion, for my layout. The base is gorgeous papers from 7 Dots Studio's Cold Country Collection. I punched some pieces, sprayed through stencils on others, and inked and stamped other pieces. Once I was happy with the placement of papers, I used a stamp from Donna Downey's Adore Words, and Stazon Ink in Hydrangea Blue to stamp 'adore' all over my page.
I did add a bit of washi tape (green) from my stash, to reflect the green of the flag in the photo. Love how the layered and sprayed triangles look on this page!
The gorgeous Prima flowers, wood veneers from Studio Calico, 7 Dots stickers, sprays from Shimmerz and the Faber-Castell Big Brush Markers were all included in the kit and kit addons.
The journaling, which is an integral part of the OUAS sketch, is made from different bits of stickers from 7 Dots. It reads, "I'll tell you a secret, wherever you are, wherever you go, you are my reason, you are my world, you change everything" ....love this!!
So there you have it. Head on over to OUAS and check out all of the DT projects. We'd love to have you play along with us!!!! And stop by the Flying Unicorn Store, to get your kit!!!
Welcome to another bi-weekly challenge at Twisted Tuesday. This time your challenge is 'Make Me Laugh Foolish Jester', use the photo inspiration below. The twist is to make us laugh, with silly, funny cards, silly photos on your page, etc.
I chose to pull out the pinks in the pic, and add a silly pic of my DD and DGS. Here's my take on the challenge......
100% Authentic
It seems that everytime my daughter and grand-son, take pics, they always end up doing a silly face one. This time, I couldn't resist using it on my layout. I started with gorgeous papers, tags, and chippies from Prima's new Stationer's Desk Collection. Then I slathered on the mixed media products.
My base is gessoed, then stencilled with a Prima stencil and Golden Molding Paste. Then stamped with my fave Kaisercraft Script stamp as well as a Glitz stamp. Next, I sprayed with Lindy's Stamp Gang Sprays in Golden Lump o'Coal, Long John's Silver and Queen of Hearts Red. I added some drywall tape, more stamping, and Dr Ph Martin's Bombay Ink in Black.
I chose to add a sentiment, or secondary title if you will, with 7 Gypsies Disclaimer set....an oldie, but goodie, and Ranger Archival ink in Jet Black. Just above the tickets, you can see some darker shine...those are beads from my stash. I added more beads throughout my layout.
The flowers are from Manor House, Petaloo, Prima and I Am Roses, and were also treated to the above sprays from Lindy's, and Pretty in Pink Pink. I added a few metal embellies from my stash as well.
Under my photo mat, I added a bit of black thread. Holy shimmer!!! The lighting in my scrappy space, was perfect to get all of the shimmer from the sprays, in the pic.
Love how this layout came about. Hope you enjoyed it as well.
Hop on over to the Twisted Tuesday blog, and check out all of the DT projects. And don't forget to enter your creation in our challenge, for your chance to win a Guest DT spot!!
