Good morning everyone!
I'm a bit late in posting our bi-weekly challenge over at Twisted Tuesday. Yikes!
Our challenge this time, is Summer Sun, Playin' All Day, and the twist is to use a playful theme. Childlike, playful image, playground photos for a page, etc.
Well, you know I have an affinity for skirting around the theme of the challenges.....and this week was much of the same! Ha! Actually my beloved Epson printer died this week, and I haven't been able to print pics, nor have I had the time to have them printed elsewhere, so I had to work with the pics I had on hand. Here's my take on challenge #77......
This is probably one of the most minimal layouts, I have ever made. And it has no flowers on it!! What's up with that?!! Yep, can't explain it either, I wanted something a bit bolder to go with the pic, and it just evolved from there.
I used 3 different sized circle punches (EK Success and Marvy), to punch my Canson watercolor paper. Then sprayed each with Dylusions in Vibrant Turquoise or Calypso Teal. Once dry, I squeezed out some white Tulip dimensional paint and Viva Decor Pearl Pen in black, onto my mat, and used bottle lids and ATG reels to stamp the paint on. Doing the white first, letting it dry and then adding the black over top.
Now, I had already glued down the circles to the background......in hindsight, I wish I had thought about stamping the circles before glueing and adding the 3D paint, but it worked out. I made myself a stencil by punching the 3 different sized punches on scrap paper, and placed it over each circle, on my background (Riddersholm Designs), and then added my stencil (Tim Holtz), over top, and pounced on some 13 Arts paint in Matte Greeen or Matte Lemon. This was such a light coat, that it dried immediately. Next I used the 'Numbers' stamp from Kaisercraft and Blazing Red ink from Stazon, and added a bit of stamping to the Vibrant Turquoise circles....again, using my homemade stencil, to protect the background, in case I had an oops!
Continuing with the bold theme, and a huge part of the challenge.....I dug out some old as the hills alphas from my stash, painted them with gesso, and then added 2 coats of Liquitex Basics paint in Primary Yellow.....holy brightness!!! Yeah, very bold!! I wanted my title to be 'Angry Birds Kicks', but there was no way I was going with all 2" tall letters. Back to my stash..... where I found some Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type alphas in red.....they were perfect to add around one of the punched circles. But they were getting lost, so I added an arrow with a Uniball Signo white pen (LOVE that pen!!!!), to point to the start of the title.
On the same alpha sheet, were some word stickers, so I added a few on some of the circles, and then highlighted around them with the white pen. I felt like the circles were getting lost on the page, so I added dashed lines, in white, around each circle to make them pop.
I matted my pic on scrap paper, and I added Liquitex Basics Titanium White paint on the edges. But that wasn't enough, so I added a white mat, under that, to frame the pic. And then I decided, I was going to use the Signo pen to draw around the pic itself, to add more contrast. Once that was all dry, I mounted the pic on a piece of thick chipboard, and glued it down to my page.
This was a pretty simple layout to make. Very little fussing with papers, and none with flowers!! Not my usual style, but I really like it!!! Every once in a while, I feel a need to go bolder, and more playful like!! I want to thank Melina, for the challenges that she prepares for us, these have really helped me to think outside of the box!!! And she's allowed us to have fun, play and go with how we see each challenge!! Thank you Melina!!!
Now head on over to the Twisted Tuesday challenge blog, to check out all of the DT creations.....and go ahead, play, and join in on the fun!!!
